Bridget Riley

Bridget Riley is a British painter and a leading figure of Op Art, the style built on optical illusion. Born in London in 1931, she became famous in the 1960s for precise black-and-white paintings of stripes, curves, and dots that seem to shimmer, vibrate, or move as you look at them. The effects come purely from carefully arranged pattern, tricking the eye into seeing motion.

Later she introduced color, exploring how bands and shapes of different hues interact and pulse against one another. Her work is meticulously planned, with assistants helping execute the exact designs. Riley's dazzling, dynamic patterns made her an international sensation, and she remains one of the most respected British abstract artists of her generation.
