Eyvind Earle

Eyvind Earle was an American artist and illustrator best known for his lush, highly stylized landscapes. Born in New York in 1916, he traveled widely as a young man before joining Walt Disney Studios, where he shaped the striking visual look of the animated film Sleeping Beauty. Its flat, decorative backgrounds full of pointed trees and glowing color came straight from his imagination.

After leaving animation he built a long independent career painting and printmaking, filling his scenes with rolling hills, spindly trees, and dramatic skies rendered in crisp, jewel-like detail. His work sits somewhere between fine art and design, blending influences from Asian art and medieval tapestry. Earle's instantly recognizable style has made him a favorite among collectors of American landscape art.
