Jules de Balincourt

Jules de Balincourt is a French-born contemporary painter based in Brooklyn. Born in Paris in 1972, he moved to the United States as a teenager, and that sense of moving between cultures runs through his work. He paints imaginary crowds, gatherings, islands, and cities in bright, flat, slightly off-kilter color, often from a raised, map-like viewpoint that turns his scenes into small worlds.
