Nick Ut

Nick Ut is a Vietnamese-American photographer famous for one of the most powerful images of the Vietnam War. Born in 1951, he was working for a news agency in 1972 when he photographed children fleeing a napalm attack, among them a young girl running in terror, badly burned. The heartbreaking picture brought home the human cost of the war to people around the world.

The photograph won the Pulitzer Prize, and Ut also helped rush the injured girl to a hospital, and the two remained connected for decades afterward. He went on to a long career as a photojournalist. Ut's single image became one of the defining photographs of the twentieth century and a lasting plea against the suffering of war.
