Olga Wisinger-Florian was an Austrian painter known for vivid landscapes and flower pieces. Born in Vienna in 1844, she first trained seriously as a pianist before turning to painting, and she became one of the leading women in Austrian art at a time when that path was far from easy. She was linked to the mood-driven atmospheric painting popular in Vienna, then moved toward brighter color and bolder brushwork.

Her flower fields and garden corners can feel almost to vibrate with thick, energetic strokes of paint. Beyond her art she campaigned for women's rights and better opportunities for female artists. Long overshadowed, she has been rediscovered in recent years as one of the more original Austrian landscape painters of her generation.
