Paul Klee

Paul Klee was a Swiss-German artist known for playful, imaginative, and deeply original work. Born near Bern in 1879, he created a huge body of paintings and drawings full of childlike wonder, strange symbols, and delicate color. His images can suggest dreams, music, gardens, or invented worlds, often with a gentle humor and a sense of magic.

He taught at the famous Bauhaus school and thought deeply about color, line, and form, writing influential ideas about how art works. His small, jewel-like pictures reward close, patient looking. Klee's inventive, poetic vision made him one of the most beloved and individual artists of the twentieth century.
