William Henry Holmes

William Henry Holmes was an American artist and scientist whose careful drawings and paintings recorded the landscapes of the American West. Born in Ohio in 1846, he joined government surveys as an illustrator, producing precise, beautiful renderings of the Grand Canyon and other western wonders that helped the public grasp their scale and grandeur.
