Thick, wet strokes of paint sweep across this canvas in ribbons of cream, orange, and yellow, layered so heavily you can see where the brush or knife dragged through them. This is an abstract work by Andrada Anghel, part of her ongoing "Burst of color" series. The paint itself is the subject here. There is no figure or landscape to name, just movement and the physical push and pull of pigment.

Look at the way the pale strokes curl through the center like the current of a river, while flecks of dark blue and bright orange scatter across the edges. Some viewers see water, fish, or fire in it, but Anghel leaves that open. The pleasure of a piece like this is watching how the colors collide and where the paint pooled thick or thinned out. It rewards a bit of patience without asking you to figure anything out.
