Hermenegildo Anglada-Camarasa

Hermenegildo Anglada-Camarasa was a Spanish painter known for richly colored, decorative works. Born in Barcelona in 1871, he made his name in Paris with glittering night scenes and portraits of elegant women in dazzling dress, painted in glowing, jewel-like color. His style blended Symbolism and Art Nouveau with a strong sense of pattern and ornament.

Later he settled on the island of Mallorca, whose dramatic coast and intense light inspired lush landscapes full of deep blues and greens. He was an influential teacher and a celebrated figure in the Spanish art world. Anglada-Camarasa's sumptuous color and decorative flair made him one of the most distinctive Spanish painters of his generation.
