Peder Severin Krøyer

Peder Severin Krøyer was a Danish painter and the most famous of the Skagen painters, a group of artists who gathered in a fishing village at the northern tip of Denmark. Born in Norway in 1851 and raised in Denmark, he was drawn to Skagen by its extraordinary light. He became renowned for capturing the soft blue glow of summer evenings on the beach.

His paintings of friends strolling by the sea at dusk, and of lively gatherings of artists, have become beloved images of a golden, carefree world. He was a masterful painter of light on water, skin, and white dresses. Despite personal struggles late in life, Krøyer left behind some of the most cherished paintings in Danish art.
