Stars and Satellites V by Douglas Smith

Stars and Satellites V

By Douglas Smith

Follow the tangled threads across this piece and you find two very different worlds pulling apart. Fiery orange lines swirl and knot through a smoky gray sky at the top, restless and full of heat. Down below, cool blue strands drift through deep teal water, calmer but no less alive. Between them, two small white birds meet at a slender pole, sitting right where these opposite realms collide.

Douglas Smith works in a clean, graphic style here, letting color carry the emotion rather than detailed shapes. The warm reds above and the cool blues below create a natural tension, like wind meeting waves. Those looping lines never quite resolve into anything solid, which leaves the meaning open. Some might read it as sky and sea, others as energy against stillness, and some may simply enjoy watching color ripple across the surface. Part of his "Stars and Satellites" series, the work rewards whatever story you choose to bring to it.
