Abend

This peaceful landscape captures the quiet moment of evening settling over a harvested field. Golden wheat sheaves lie scattered across the foreground, their warm tones glowing against patches of green earth. In the distance, a pale sun breaks through cloudy skies, casting a subtle light across the rolling hills and creating that distinctive soft atmosphere of day's end.

Marie Egner, an Austrian painter working in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was known for her plein air landscapes and her keen observation of light. She was among the few successful female artists of her time, overcoming considerable barriers to study and exhibit her work. Her loose, impressionistic brushwork here conveys the texture of dried grasses and the weight of gathered grain beautifully, while the muted color palette perfectly evokes that melancholy stillness when the workday ends and twilight begins to creep across the land.
