Blushing Flowers (section)
By Amber Gittins, 2010
Flowers crowd every inch of this canvas, tangled together so tightly that there is barely room to breathe. Amber Gittins painted "Blushing Flowers" in 2010 using soft creams, pale blush, and quiet greens, with a few touches of yellow and warm peach breaking through. Daisies and lilies overlap one another in a joyful mess, giving the whole scene the feel of a garden that has grown a little out of hand in the best possible way.
Gittins works with a loose, easygoing hand, and that is exactly what gives the piece its charm. Rather than chasing tiny details, she lets each brushstroke stay visible and free, so every petal looks alive and slightly untamed. The result is calm and natural, more about mood and abundance than precision.
Worth knowing is that this image is only a slice of a much bigger painting. That cropping is why the blossoms seem to run off the edges in all directions, as though you have caught sight of just one small patch of a garden that keeps on going well beyond what the frame can hold.
