Peaceful Autumn Lake
By Bob Ross, 1986
Snow still clings to the mountain peak while autumn colors burst across the shoreline below. This is classic Bob Ross territory, the kind of calm wilderness scene he painted thousands of times for his television show "The Joy of Painting." The pink and blue sky here gives the whole picture a soft, dreamy glow, and the still water doubles the mountain and trees in a near perfect mirror. Golden bushes, evergreen pines, and a quiet stretch of beach round out the view.
Bob Ross had a gift for making painting feel possible for everyone. He worked using a wet on wet technique, layering oil paint quickly so each piece came together in about half an hour. Fans will recognize his signature touches throughout this work, from the "happy little trees" to the tall foreground evergreens he liked to add at the very end. It is not meant to challenge or puzzle you. The goal is simple, to offer a peaceful place your eyes can rest, and on that promise it delivers nicely.
